Lauren, A Crocker’s Bride To Be

Hey guys and gals, it’s Lauren, and I’m here to deliver some pretty big news … I’m ENGAGED!! I’m still very much on cloud nine, and I think I’ve acquired a bunch of new wrinkles because I just can’t get this smile off of my face. Ahhh! You’re probably wondering … how’d he propose?!

It was like a dream …

Early on in the week Matthew told me that he had to help his Dad with a project on Thursday evening so he wouldn’t be around. Okay! Nothing out of the ordinary. So while he went off to do whatever it is he had to do, I made plans with Melissa. On our way to go eat chips and salsa {my fav}, Melissa told me that we had to stop by Bringle Park. Her son was there for a school photo shoot and had forgotten the very important shirt he was supposed to wear {oh, kiddos}.

When we arrived at the park, Melissa got a phone call that she “had to take”. As she chatted she tossed me her sons very important shirt and sent me on my way to go find him. As I’m racing around the park looking for a group of kids all of a sudden I run into this tall handsome man. It was Matthew. Ummm …

Immediately, I felt butterflies. I knew what was about to happen and the only thing that stopped me from bursting into ooey-gooey-love-tears was Matthew’s big smiling face. He walked towards me, got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me?”.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Forever. Yes.

Matthew and Lauren Proposal (1)

Matthew and Lauren Proposal 2*photo credit: Amanda Magness Photography

“Let me tell you, keeping an engagement ring a secret is no easy task. Especially when the recipient is your friend, your co-worker, and your neighbor! Thank goodness Matthew’s in-store accomplice {ahem, Melissa} kept the proposal plan to herself. I would have exploded if I had to deal with anymore sneakiness!

The night of the proposal I was out of town and when Lauren called me with the news I literally did a happy dance in my hotel room. I couldn’t be more excited for these two lovebirds, and I’m looking forward to the big celebration. Knowing Lauren, it’s going to be so beautiful. Now what to wear … to a wedding … in Texas … in September. Hmmm.”

“I’ve known Lauren my whole life and I’m so happy for her and Matthew! I’m anxious to celebrate their everlasting love and happiness at the #PathtoPonder wedding. It’s going to be a blast, and she’s going to be such a stunning bride. I mean, just look at her! Not to mention, that ring {gasp}. Matthew, you did good. Really, really good!

While I know Makenzie has doubts about the September weather, I’m sticking to my guns and am planning to wear a flowy sun dress to the celebration. For a little extra personality I’ll add in a couple of Bourbon & Boweties Bracelets from Crocker’s Jewelers.”

“It’s such a good feeling seeing Lauren genuinely happy! The day she mentioned meeting Matthew, her eyes lit up and she couldn’t stop talking about the butterflies in her stomach. Lauren is one of the sweetest people I know and she always goes out of her way to help others {myself included}. That’s why I am so happy that she found Matthew, who always puts her first. The timing for both of them was absolute perfection and their wedding will show that. It will be beautiful, fun, and there will be oh, so much love.

While Lauren looks radiant in her white dress, I’m planning to wear a simple maxi dress or even a classy romper. Some accessories from Crocker’s Jewelers will be the icing on the cake. I really like what I’m seeing from Jayden Star and Pandora right now, so I am sure I’ll have plenty of options to choose from when the big day nears!”

Making Gifts Memorable

At Crocker’s Jewelers we have people walk through our door every day, searching for “the perfect gift”. With graduation, Mother’s Day, and summer birthdays around the corner we started to give it some thought. What makes a gift memorable anyways? For the answer The Girls of Crocker’s took a little trip down memory lane to determine the BEST gift that we had ever received.

It didn’t take us long to notice a theme. The gifts that we loved the most weren’t the biggest ones. They weren’t the most expensive. And, they weren’t {always} the shiniest. Our favorite gifts were those that reminded us of the people that we love. Take these for example …

A pair of Ray Ban Aviators …

The most memorable gift I ever received is a pair of hand-me-down Ray Ban Aviators from my older brother. I have a very close family and consider my brothers my best friends. My senior year of high school, I hadn’t seen my older brother for many months as he had been away at Basic Military Training {BMT} and flight school.

Like most teenage girls I had been wanting a pair of Ray Bans for months, and apparently my brother caught on even though he wasn’t really around. On my graduation day not only did I get a pair of Ray Bans, but I got the very Ray Ban Aviators that my oldest brother had worn all through Flight School. They are still my go-to pair of sunglasses and when I wear them it’s like I have him with me even when we’re hundreds of miles apart.

My father’s signature …

The most memorable gift that I can think of isn’t actually one that I received, rather it’s one that I gave to my mother. A couple months before Christmas last year my dad passed away. In order to boost my mom’s spirits I wanted to do something extra special for her over the holidays. I scoured through piles of cards that my dad have given my mom, and finally I found this perfect little note that read “Forever Love Mick”.

I took a picture of my dad’s handwriting and sent it to Heather Moore so that they could create a custom stamp. Using the stamp I had a necklace made with his signature on a tag, his birthstone, as well as a yellow gold bar with the names of my sister and I. Watching my mom as she opened it on Christmas morning is something that I will never forget. To say that she LOVED it is an understatement. She wears it everyday!

A reminder of my two true loves …

In October of 2014 my first and only baby girl made her debut in this world. She also happened to be born on her daddy’s birthday, which was really special to both of us. After we took her home, I dreamt of getting a custom pink tourmaline ring made to represent Kyle and Ryan’s birthdays. I wanted it to be yellow gold, and stackable.

Well, when I walked into our living room on Christmas morning I saw something sparkling back at me when I went to grab out stockings. It was my ring! I have worn it every day since and will for the rest of my life. After all, it represents two of the people that I love the most in this world. Kyle Lynn and her daddy.

Gifts from my children …

Over the years my children have given me so much, but looking back there are two gifts that stand out.

When my daughter was born, my son was eight years old. He joined us at the hospital and was astonished that when we went home, he had a little sister. Then he presented me with a little box that contained He-man Masters of the Universe. He told me that I was Master of his Universe. And, my heart melted.

Years later my daughter started asking for chores so that she could get paid like her brother. On Mother’s Day of that year, which also happened to be her birthday, she collected her chore money and bought me an “M” necklace. But, it wasn’t for Mary … it was for Mama. I still wear that necklace to this day.

A family heirloom that lives on …

My favorite gift is a white gold diamond ring that was left to me by my grandmother. I adored my sweet grandmother and loved spending time with her.  The ring she left me is beautiful and it makes me smile and think of her every single time I wear it. I have enjoyed having this family heirloom and will one day pass it on to my sweet niece and hope it is a memorable gift for her as well.

If you’re looking for a memorable gift that your loved one with treasure for years to come, visit Crocker’s Jewelers in Texarkana, TX. Based on experience, we know what makes a gift special, not to mention we love making people smile.

St. Patrick’s Day Bites & Bling

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and the Girls of Crocker’s have just what you need to celebrate in style – bites and bling. Whether you’re hosting friends, or just looking for festive dishes for the family, check out some of our favorite leprechaun inspired recipes below. For a bit of added luck and a lot of style, we’ve also paired these delish dishes with glistening green Emeralds. Because, why not?!

  • 2 cups packed fresh basil leaves.
  • 2 cloves garlic.
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts.
  • 2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil, divided.
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste.
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Pecorino cheese.

Combine the basil, garlic, and pine nuts in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Add 1/2 cup of the oil and process until fully incorporated and smooth. Season with salt and pepper. If using immediately, add all the remaining oil and pulse until smooth. Transfer the pesto to a large serving bowl and mix in the cheese.

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon mint extract, or more to taste
  • 9 drops green food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 2 tablespoons whipped cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon green decorator sugar

Blend ice cream, milk, mint extract, and food coloring together in a blender until smooth.Drizzle chocolate syrup around inside walls of 2 tall glasses; pour shake into glass. Top with whipped cream and green decorator sugar.

  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 4 cups of soft marshmallows
  • 5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring
  • 3/4 cup of Lucky Charm’s marshmallows

Melt butter over low heat until completely melted. Gradually add the regular marshmallows and stir often to avoid burning them. When the marshmallow and butter mixture is completely melted, add the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and your green food coloring. Mix well. Remove from heat and stir in your Rice Krispie cereal. Once mixture is mostly combined, stir in the Lucky Charm’s marshmallows.

Deviled Eggs

  • 10 hard boiled eggs
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • Green food coloring
  • Cider vinegar
  • Paprika

Put the eggs in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat to low, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, cool the eggs with running cold water. Peel the eggs. Then cut them in half. Separate the yokes and put them in a bowl. Combine cider vinegar with green food coloring in a bowl and add the egg whites. Remove them when they are pastel green. Mash the yolks with a fork. When they’re uniformly crumbly, add about a 1/2 cup mayonnaise. You can make it as creamy as you like. Time to fill the eggs! Put a little bit of the yolk mixture in each egg, so you don’t run out, then go back and add a little more on top. Garnish with a little bit of paprika.

  • 1 1⁄2 cups oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon green food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1⁄2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt

Combine eggs, sugar, oil and vinegar in bowl. Mix well.  Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition. Blend in vanilla and food coloring. Pour into 3 greased and floured 8 ” cake pans. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Cool. Frost between layers, top and side of cake.

  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 14oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ tsp peppermint extract
  • 3 drops green food coloring
  • 1 cup chopped up chocolate bits

In a large mixing bowl, whip your heavy cream over high speed for about 10-15 minutes until stiff peaks start to form. In another bowl, combine your condensed milk, peppermint extract, food coloring and chocolate bits. Pour your whipped cream into your sweetened condensed milk mixture and fold everything together till combined. Pour into a 3 QT pan and cover tightly. Place in freezer for 6 hours, to overnight before serving.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! May the luck {and sparkle} of the Irish be with you! If you want to check out any of the Emerald pieces featured in this post, give us a shout, or stop by Crocker’s Jewelers in Texarkana, TX.

Pop The Question This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. Naturally, the Girls Of Crocker’s have love on their minds. And with love comes the perfect proposal. Guys, if you’re looking for ways to sweep your girl off of her feet, take some advice from us. A proposal should be romantic. It should be personal. And, according to us, it should be pretty elaborate.

Just in case you’re looking for ideas, here’s how we want our “future” hubbies to pop the question …

Head For The Mountains

“I think it’s perfect that Valentine’s Day falls on the cold month of February. It’s so much more romantic than those warm summer months. After all, nobody wants to be proposed to with sweat pouring down their face, frizzy hair, and squinting eyes. Nope, not a sexy moment you want to remember forever. So … my dream Valentines proposal would be in the snow covered mountains somewhere beautiful. Say, Colorado! As I’m riding the ski lift preparing to show off my awesome snowboarding skills I would look down to see “will you marry me?” spelled out in the snow. I think it’s possible, but, I if that’s too elaborate I would also take an adorable, quaint Ski Lodge posted up in front of a warm fire after our big adventurous snowboarding day!”

Make It A Surprise

“To me the perfect proposal is one that’s a complete surprise. I know a lot of girls say this, but seriously … I don’t want to have a clue! Here’s how he goes down … he sneakily takes me back to the first place we ever met and “Marry Me” by Train just happens to be playing in the background. Then he begins to tell me all of the wonderful, amazing, and cheesy things about me, and our relationship. From there, it continues and eventually he lands down on one knee and says those beautiful words, “will you marry me?” {yes, duh}. I want it to be a special moment between the two of us, well except for that secret photographer that’s there to capture the moment! “

Recruit The Entire Family

“I know this sounds cliche’ but my dream proposal is a Valentine’s Proposal! Valentine’s Day  is my parents anniversary and that is a very sentimental day for me. My ultimate proposal would be if my future husband popped the question in front of my entire family. They are so important to me and I want them to be there to experience that special moment with me. And for the bling … my dream ring is a 2 carat round center stone set in yellow gold. All that said, for the right man I would be happy with a ring pop {no joke}.”

A Romantic Paradise

“My dream Valentine’s Day proposal would take place in Fiji, in a Tiki Hut, surrounded by beautiful blue water. The hut would be all decked out with flowers and the ring would be displayed on the glass floor so that you could see the fish swimming around your beautiful bling {#whynot}! As you can tell, I want movie style proposal, very elaborate and romantic!! My dream ring is this stunning Gabriel yellow gold emerald cut with a baguette on each side.”

A New York Minute

“My dream Valentine’s proposal would have to be in New York City. Mostly because I’m obsessed with NYC! Did you know that you can rent the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center for a couple of hours to execute your perfect proposal? Believe me, I’ve looked into it {don’t judge}. Not only would you be in one of the most beautiful cities, you would also be at 30 Rock with the person of your dreams. Just try to forget about the fact that complete strangers are watching you as you attempt to ice skate. Icing on the cake would be a Valentine’s Day proposal. I know. I know. I might be over the top, but isn’t every girls “dream” proposal?!”

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Wishing you holiday full of love, and maybe even a proposal. If so, be sure to share your story with us!!

Birthday Bling We Love

Birthstone jewelry has come a long way since our childhood years {#thankgoodness}. From classic looks to modern statement pieces, we have so many great birthstone pieces that you’ll be proud to wear everyday. Not to mention, they also make wonderful gifts for children, mothers, and spouses.

If you’re in the market for a birthday piece, here is some advice from the Girls of Crockers

Birthday – March 8th // Sign – Pisces // Birthstone – Aquamarine

Tell Us About Your Sign: My sign fits me pretty well as I’m often unexplainable and random.

Favorite Birthstone Piece: I love our Ryan Gems aquamarine and diamond earrings with the Gabriel & Co. stackable band. The thing I love about both of these pieces is that you can pair them with any outfit in your closet.

Birthstone Buying Advice: For moms-to-be I highly recommend a stackable band to go with your wedding set. Another great option is a pair of everyday earrings with your child’s birthstone.

Birthday – January 7th // Sign – Capricorn // Birthstone – Garnet

Tell Us About Your Sign: As someone that is very traditional and family-oriented, I fit the Capricorn mold very well.

Favorite Birthstone Piece: When it comes to birthday-inspired accessories, I love all of the Garnet pieces from Gabriel & Co. Their designs are unique and stand out just enough. I also like the idea of picking one of our semi-mounts from Gabriel and adding my birthstone as the center stone! They have so many vintage styles that would make a great birthstone ring.

Birthstone Buying Advice: Since I am traditional and very sentimental I love the idea of investing in a higher-end birthstone piece that can be passed down for generations to come. Think pendants, rings or earrings.

Birthday – November 21st // Sign – Scorpio // Birthstone – Citrine

Tell Us About Your Sign: Scorpios are known to be good at keeping secrets, so if you have any gossip, feel free to come to me {wink}.

Favorite Birthstone Piece: I’m always on the lookout for stunning birthstone jewelry and right now we have this Gabriel & Co. necklace that I am obsessed with! A colorful citrine sits in the center and is surrounded by sparkling diamonds. For something a bit more casual, I also love the Alex & Ani birthstone bracelets.

Birthstone Buying Advice: For the new daddies, you’ll really impress your wife when you come home with a piece that showcases the birthstone of your new baby. A simple pendant is a safe bet, and if you have multiple children I recommend looking at stackable bands.

Birthday – February 5th // Sign – Aquarius // Birthstone – Amethyst

Tell Us About Your Sign: I would say my sign describes me very well. I am very open minded, Individualistic, and eclectic.

Favorite Birthstone Piece: I’m in love with all of the Amethyst pieces from LeVian. I love how they are mixed with their signature strawberry gold and chocolate diamonds!

Birthstone Buying Advice: Pandora bracelets are something I always recommend starting for moms and grandmothers with multiple kids and grandkids. They can have all of their birthstones on one bracelet and show them off to everyone!

Birthday – April 20th // Sign – Taurus // Birthstone – Diamond

Tell Us About Your Sign: My birthday falls in between Aries and Taurus. I feel I am more like Taurus because I am stubborn and hard headed like a bull!

Favorite Birthstone Piece: I lucked out with my birthstone because who doesn’t love diamonds?! It’s hard to choose because I have so many options, but I love all of the diamond pieces that we have from Natalie K and Forevermark.

Birthstone Buying Advice: I think all April babies deserve a special diamond piece to honor their birth month. Any other diamond pieces are just a bonus!

To see all of our birthstone jewelry collections stop by Crocker’s Jewelers in Texarkana, TX. Whether you’re shopping for yourself, or a loved one, we’re here to help you find that perfect piece!
